Successful Penile Reconstruction and Implant Surgery Performed at DMC&H

Ludhiana, September 10, 2025: The Department of Urology DMC&H Ludhiana, has achieved a significant medical milestone under the leadership of Dr. Arvind Goyal, Professor Urology, by successfully performing a penile implant surgery on a patient with severe penile injury post phallus reconstruction.
The patient, Harbir (name changed), had sustained extensive damage to his phallus following an unfortunate high-voltage electrocution accident at age of 14. The injury had caused irreversible functional loss, leading to severe physical and psychological trauma. At the age of 20 his penis was reconstructed after taking skin and fat from forearm followed by urethroplasty (reconstruction of urine pipe) done at DMC&H with support from Dr Ramneesh Garg, Professor, Department of Plastic Surgery, DMC&H.
The surgery was carried out by Dr. Arvind Goyal and his team of experts, involved meticulous planning, advanced surgical techniques, and careful rehabilitation measures. Penile reconstruction is a vital medical intervention for patients who have suffered traumatic injuries, require reconstruction or were born with congenital conditions. A penile implant is often the final, and most successful, step in a long journey for many patients. Penile reconstruction is a highly sophisticated field of surgery that goes beyond cosmetic enhancement.

Further Dr Goyal stated that Penile reconstruction & implant surgery is one of the most challenging reconstructive procedures in urology. In this particular case, the complexity was further increased due to the nature of electrical injury to the tissues and a reconstructed phallus with no corporal strength. I am glad that with our team’s collective effort and the advanced facilities at our institution we were able to provide the patient a new lease of life.
The patient is recovering well and has expressed gratitude to the medical team for restoring not only physical functionality but also confidence and dignity after years of hardship.
