Students pledge to halt paddy straw burning at event organized by KVK Kapurthala

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kapurthala, under the guidance of the Directorate of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, organised a slogan-writing and drawing competition on October 20, 2023, at the Government Senior Secondary School, Tibba—the event aimed to mobilise school students to actively discourage the harmful practice of burning paddy residue.

Ludhiana, October 23, 2023: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kapurthala, under the guidance of the Directorate of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, organised a slogan-writing and drawing competition on October 20, 2023, at the Government Senior Secondary School, Tibba—the event aimed to mobilise school students to actively discourage the harmful practice of burning paddy residue.

Master Gurvinder Singh, at the outset, extended a warm welcome to the KVK experts and commended their efforts in raising awareness about paddy straw management. Dr Harinder Singh, Associate Director (Training) at KVK, Kapurthala, engaged with the students and shed light on the detrimental effects of burning crop residue. He informed them about various technologies for paddy residue management and emphasized the pivotal role students could play in spreading this crucial message.

Dr Bindu, Associate Professor (Agricultural Engineering), inspired the students to participate in similar competitions aimed at promoting paddy residue management campaigns in the future. She encouraged them to serve as torchbearers for this noble cause and carry the message to every corner of society.

The competitions were organized with the guidance of Dr Avneet Kaur Ahuja, Associate Professor (Home Science), and the dedicated staff of the Government Senior Secondary School, Tibba, including Nirmal Singh Joshan and Mr Charanjit Singh.

Kajal from class 11 secured the first prize, while Harmanjot Singh from class 9 and Jasmeet Kaur from class 10 clinched the second and third prizes, respectively. The winners were also honoured with PAU souvenirs to motivate their competitive spirit further.

During the event, students expressed their commitment to spreading the message of paddy straw management in their respective villages. In conclusion, the school Principal, Bhupinder Kaur, thanked the KVK team for organizing the competition and assured full cooperation in this noble cause.
