Students of Stonehill International School dazzle audiences with electrifying production of Footloose, featuring music by Tom Snow and lyrics by Dean Pitchford

Mumbai, February 23, 2026: Students from the middle and high school divisions of Stonehill International School lit up the stage with a vibrant production of Footloose, the celebrated 1998 stage musical based on the iconic 1984 film, at the Bangalore International Centre. The four public shows spread over 3 days, featured music by Tom Snow and lyrics by Dean Pitchford.
This year’s production was a fun, high-energy musical about a teenager named Ren who moves to a small town where dancing and loud music are banned. Believing that music and movement help people express themselves, Ren and his friends work with the adults in their community to bring joy, understanding, and change.
“I chose to stage Footloose the Musical because it's a celebration of youth and movement and at its core it explores resilience and finding your voice. I have been involved in theatre since the age of 7 as both a performer and director, and I care deeply about staging productions that build confidence and community. Theatre provides a creative space for students to express themselves and discover strengths,” said Stonehill teacher Jason Gallant, who directed the musical with artistic vision and a deep commitment to student development. The show explored themes of self-expression, healing after loss, listening to young voices, and finding common ground between generations. Packed with memorable songs like “Footloose,” “Let’s Hear It for the Boy,” and “Holding Out for a Hero,” the story ended with a joyful celebration that shows how communities can grow through empathy and communication.
Joe Lumsden, Head of School, Stonehill International School, commented, “We are all so proud of and impressed by the performance of our students. They all worked tirelessly on this performance for six months, staying overnight for lengthy rehearsals while keeping up with school work along the way. The culminating performance on Saturday evening was one of the most memorable experiences I have enjoyed over the past seven years here in Bangalore."
The production’s immersive look and feel were brought to life through a strikingly realistic set, thoughtfully designed and built by Stonehill’s own students and teachers. From costumes and props to lighting, makeup, choreography, and music, every creative element was conceptualised and executed in-house—showcasing the depth of talent and collaboration within the school community.
