Stronger Families, Safer Society: Sharda University & Police Commissionerate Mark FDRC’s Sixth Anniversary

Greater Noida, September 18, 2026: Sharda School of Law, in collaboration with the Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Commissionerate, successfully organized the Annual Programme of the Family Dispute Resolution Clinic (FDRC) at Sharda University, marking the Clinic’s sixth anniversary. Themed “Stronger Families for a Harmonious Society”, the programme brought together over 350 students, legal professionals, police officials, counsellors, and academicians to reaffirm their collective commitment to family welfare, accessible justice, and peaceful resolution of disputes.
The event commenced with the inaugural ceremony at Thana Knowledge Park, followed by a formal programme at the Chanakya Auditorium, Sharda University. Distinguished dignitaries graced the occasion, including Dr. Babita Singh Chauhan, Chairperson, Uttar Pradesh State Commission for Women, as Chief Guest, and Laxmi Singh, Commissioner of Police, Gautam Buddha Nagar, as Guest of Honour.  Suneeti, DCP of U.P Police Commissionerate was also present at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Laxmi Singh, Commissioner of Police, Gautam Buddha Nagar, emphasized: “In my 26 years of service, I have realized that family and marital disputes are among the most difficult challenges to resolve. Unlike crime scenes where justice can be delivered through investigation and prosecution, bringing disputing parties together to reconcile requires empathy, patience, and multidisciplinary support. The Family Dispute Resolution Clinic is a success story because it unites law enforcement, legal professionals, psychologists, and counsellors under one roof — showing society that resolution is not just about police intervention, but about dialogue and healing.
She also spoke about rising crimes against women and commented that the acceptance of crime against women as casually as putting salt in food must end. Policing needs to be trauma centric and victim centric.  As we step into the seventh year of this clinic, I believe it represents a shift towards changing mindsets and reminding us that justice must be compassionate and that strengthening families is the foundation of a truly civilized society.”
Highlighting the importance of women’s empowerment and accessible justice, Dr. Babita Singh Chauhan, Chairperson, Uttar Pradesh State Commission for Women, remarked: “Family disputes often impact women and children most deeply. The FDRC stands as a beacon of hope, offering counselling and mediation that restore dignity and peace. This initiative reflects our shared responsibility to ensure that justice is compassionate, inclusive, and accessible to all.”
Reaffirming Sharda University’s commitment, P.K. Gupta, Hon’ble Chancellor, stated: “At Sharda University, we believe education must extend beyond classrooms to address real societal challenges. The collaboration with Family Dispute Resolution Clinic embodies our vision of nurturing responsible citizens who value dialogue, empathy, and reconciliation. The programme featured felicitation of police officials, counsellors, and coordinators who have contributed to the Clinic’s success. The event concluded with the National Anthem, leaving participants inspired to carry forward the mission of fostering family harmony and community-based dispute resolution.
