State Government’s Inefficiency Responsible for Floods Across Punjab: B.L. Verma

Ludhiana, September 13, 2025: Union Minister of State B.L. Verma launched a scathing attack on the Punjab Government, holding it responsible for the widespread floods that have devastated the state. Addressing a press conference at the District BJP Office in Dugri under the chairmanship of District President Rajnish Dhiman, Verma said that the government’s negligence has pushed Punjab into a flood crisis.

Verma stated that if the state government had ensured timely repair of dams, the situation would not have turned so severe. He questioned where the funds released for dam repairs were actually spent, demanding a proper investigation.

Sharing his experience of touring several flood-hit villages in Ludhiana, Verma said that illegal mining has worsened the situation, allowing floodwaters to wreak havoc on nearby villages. “Had illegal mining been curbed, farmers’ crops and property could have been saved. This clearly shows that illegal mining was carried out with the consent of those within the state government,” he alleged.

Criticizing the AAP government over the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Verma said that despite its launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022, Punjab has failed to implement the scheme. “If the scheme had been implemented, farmers would have received full compensation for their losses. This proves the state government’s complete failure,” he added.

Highlighting the Centre’s support, Verma said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already announced a ₹1,600 crore relief package for flood-hit farmers, along with an additional package. “But the state government has not yet disbursed this money to the affected people. The central government has always stood with Punjab, while the state government has only betrayed its people,” he said.

Prominent BJP leaders including District President (Urban) Rajnish Dhiman, District President (Rural) Gaganpreet Sunny Kaith, State Vice-President Jatinder Mittal, Former District President Parveen Bansal, State Spokesperson Preetpal Singh Baliwal, District General Secretary Narender Singh Malli, Yashpal Janotra, Vice-President Dr. Nirmal Nayyar, Manish Chopra, Press Secretary Dr. Satish Kumar, and Social Media Secretary Rajan Pandhe were also present at the press conference.
