On May 10th, 2023, the people of Jalandhar, Punjab, will be voting to elect a new representative for Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Jalandhar Parliamentary Constituency. Political leaders from various parties are alleging each other on various issues, policies, and implementation/ non-implementation of election promises made in the previous elections.

AAP Supremo and Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, highlighted his party's commitment to fulfilling the guarantees made to the people of Punjab during a public gathering in Jalandhar. He stated that the party had fulfilled guarantees such as 300 units of free electricity per month for domestic consumers, opening of 504 Mohalla Clinics, and advancing education and health facilities. Kejriwal appealed to voters to vote for the AAP as it is in power in Punjab and can pave the way for a new era of development. Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, said that the AAP is focusing on educational and healthcare schemes. AAP candidate, Sushil Rinku, is working hard to convince voters to vote for him.

Congress leaders have alleged vendetta politics by the AAP government in Punjab. Congress candidate, Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary’s candidature has been announced well in advance, and she hopes that the voters will take a sympathetic view while voting for her. She is confident that she will highlight the problems of the people of Doaba and fulfill all the remaining commitments committed by her husband, Late Santhokh Singh Chaudhary, with the people of Jalandhar Parliamentary Constituency.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is contesting the Jalandhar Parliamentary by-poll for the first time independently. Senior party leaders are hopeful that with the division of votes, BJP candidate, Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal, can smoothly sail towards registering the first-ever victory. As many senior Congress leaders have joined the BJP, all senior BJP leaders are campaigning for the BJP candidate. The BJP has a cadre-based party and has booth level committees to motivate the masses to vote for their candidate, highlighting the policies and programs implemented by the Modi Government in the past nine years. The BJP state president, Ashwani Sharma, and his team, Union Minister for State, Som Parkash, Former Minister Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Mahindra Kumar Singh, Kewal Singh Dhillon, Former Minister Punjab, Raj Kumar Verka, Arvind Khanna, Nimisha Mehta, and other senior leaders are leaving no stone unturned in carrying out a series of meetings with the party workers. SAD (Sanjukt) has already extended its support to BJP candidate. The BJP will launch a “Maha Sampark Abhiyan” from April 23, 2023, during which the BJP cadre will campaign up to the booth level.

SAD(B) –BSP candidate, Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi, is optimistic that the alliance will yield unexpected results, and they can win this time. SAD (B) State President, Sukhbir Singh Badal, and Bahujan Samaj Party State President, Jasvir Singh Garhi, are motivating their supporters to get the votes polled in their favour.

Meanwhile, SAD (Amritsar) candidate is also hopeful, and Gurjant Singh has filed his nomination papers. The party candidate is relying on the popularity of its Party Supremo, Simranjit Singh Mann, who had registered his victory in the Sangrur Parliamentary by-election in 2022. The seat had become vacant with the resignation of Bhagwant Mann, who became the Chief Minister of Punjab.
