CHANDIGARH, MAY 31, 2017: On the commemoration of Prof.Balwant Gargi centenary by Panjab University, Chandigarh, stamp of Prof.Balwant Gargi was released today by Smt. Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament from Chandigarh in the presence of Prof.Arun K. Grover, Vice Chancellor, PU. Sh.P.K.Swain, Chief Post Master General (Punjab Circle) was the guest of honour.
On the occasion, also the stamps of two other writers were released namely, Shri Krishan Chander and Dr.Bhisham Sahni who are also Panjab University(PU) alumni.
Smt.Kher in her address expressed her journey in theatre under the guidance of Balwant Gargi who introduced her to the magical world of theatre through his play “Desire under the Alms”. The discipline he ingrained in her, still stays and is forward to the next generation. She emotionally expressed how enriched she is having worked with Gargi and honoured to have been this opportunity of releasing a commemorative stamp.
Prof. Arun K. Grover, Vice Chancellor, PU, earlier in his address desired of making PU a Takshila of India as PU is rich in heritage and has a potential to become one.
He requested Smt. Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament from Chandigarh to take up with MHRD for additional funds for completion of University Auditorium with a capacity of 2500 to 4000 people. He urged that the Auditorium be owned by MHRD for all universities of India and be named as “Sardar Sabhagrah”.
During the same occasion, Panjab University(PU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Arun K. Grover and Mrs. Kirron Kher, released a book titled “Cyber Laws and Information Technology” written by Dr.(Mrs.) Jyoti Rattan, Associate Professor, Department of Laws, PU, and published by Bharat Law House, New Delhi, here today.
The Chief Justice of India, Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, in his Foreword to the Book, has also commended the efforts of the author for making a significant contribution to this newly emerging area of jurisprudence which is in still in its infancy and literature is scarce. The CJI points out that the Book “throws light on several key aspects, from both technological and legal perspectives.”
