S.S. Memorial Educational Society, Shri Chamkaur Sahib, District Ropar organised a state level event Gandhi Shilp Bazaar from September 19- 28 at Welkom Palace, Sarabha Nagar, Ferozepur Road, Ludhiana. This mela is under the project of Government of India, Ministry of Textiles, Office of Development Commissioner (Handicraft).

Ludhiana, September 20, 2025: S.S. Memorial Educational Society, Shri Chamkaur Sahib, District Ropar organised a state level event Gandhi Shilp Bazaar from September 19- 28 at Welkom Palace, Sarabha Nagar, Ferozepur Road, Ludhiana. This mela is under the project of Government of India, Ministry of Textiles, Office of Development Commissioner (Handicraft). 

On Saturday, Jaskaran Singh Brar, Director Enforcement, State Intelligence and Preventive Unit (SIPU), Punjab Goods and Service Tax graced the occasion as Chief Guest at the inauguration ceremony of the event. Tariq Ahmad, Assistant Director (A&C), O/o Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Hoshiarpur presided over the ceremony. Other dignitaries present included M. P. Singh, AETC (Mobile Wing), Shambhu and Parampreet Singh, STO (Mobile Wing), Ludhiana. Prof. R.C Dhand, Chairman and Harsh Vivek Dhand of S.S. Memorial Educational Society; Dr. Satish Thaman, MD (Acupressure), along with their team, extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest & all other guests and thanked them for sparing time for the cause of artisans. 

The Chief Guest, Brar was thoroughly impressed by the incredible craftsmanship on display and appreciated the artisans’ skilful handiwork from across India. He particularly noted that the event successfully showcased remarkable handicrafts, underscoring the exceptional talent and dedication of artisans nationwide. He applauded the organisers for their commendable efforts in preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage. 

N. K. Thaman, Advocate, on behalf of S. S. Memorial Educational Society informed that in this event, nearly 70 Handicraft and Handloom artisans from all over India with Id cards of the Ministry of Textiles are participating to display and sell their products. The artisans attending the event have been provided stalls free of cost. The main attractions are Cane and Bamboo Craftwork from Jodhpur; Crochet Embroidery from Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana; Tulsi Jewellery from Jabalpur; Woodware from Tamil Nadu and Assam; Stone carving Work from Agra; Leather Footwear from Jodhpur; Phulkari from Punjab; Tilla Jutti from Punjab; Zari and Zari Goods from Lucknow etc. He further added that all the items are available online but it is an opportunity to physically witness the array of products from different states. He asked Ludhianavis to visit the mela to experience the diverse culture of India and to support Handloom and Handicraft & encourage the artisans.
