Sports workshop on subject “tackling match fixing & corruption in football” on Jan 15

New Delhi/Jalandhar, January 10, 2014: The INTERPOL Capacity Building & Training Directorate’s Integrity in Sport unit is organising a national Integrity in Sport Workshop on the subject “Tackling Match Fixing & Corruption in Football” in partnership with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (CBI) on 15 & 16 January 2014 in New Delhi.   This is a part of the “FIFA-INTERPOL Initiative” which was established to develop and implement a global training, education and prevention programme with a focus on illegal betting and match fixing.   CBI has also associated itself with this Initiative to help realise its goals.
Ranjit Sinha, Director CBI & Head of the NCB (INTERPOL - INDIA), will inaugurate the Sports workshop on January 15 and deliver the key-note address during the inaugural session.
This workshop is being organised in order to ensure that it is directly relevant to the current issues related to match-fixing and corruption faced by football administration and law enforcement entities within India.
The objective of the workshop is to develop knowledge & understanding of the global threat from match-fixing; irregular/illegal betting & its impact at national level; to identify good practices; to prevent match fixing& corruption in football; to further encourage global, regional & national bodies associated with football to work together more effectively in partnerships by regularly sharing information and taking action to prevent match-fixing. It also aims to identify gaps in the current national procedures and to making recommendations on good practice and areas for development.  At the end of the workshop, the key stakeholders including the CBI shall also formalise the future course of action.
John Abbott, Facilitator, Interpol Project Manager Match Fixing Task Force; David Graham, Training Officer, Integrity in Sport unit, Interpol; Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran, FIFA Development Officer and Kushal Das, General Secretary of All India Football Federation(AIFF) will conduct the workshop. Around 50 participants are likely to attend the two-day workshop.
