Sports department announces selection trials for sports academies & wings

Chandigarh, March 13, 2015: Punjab Sports Department has announced selection trials for budding players seeking admissions in Punjab State Institute of Sports (PIS), Football Academy Mahilpur (Hoshiarpur), Sri Dishmesh Marshal Art and Sports Academy Sri Anandpur Sahib and sports wings in various schools including residential and day scholars for academic session 2015-16.

Announcing the schedule, an official spokesperson said trials for Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Judo, Athletics, Football and Gymnastics for both boys and girls and Hockey for girls alone would be organized from March 20 to March 28. He informed that medically and physically fit players desirous to seek admissions must reach at designated places for trial by 8 am.

He said players applying for age group of under 14 years age group should have born between 2003 and 2004 whereas, under 12 years age group eligible players to have their date of birth of year 2004 or later.

He informed that selection trials for Gurdaspur district would be organised at Government college stadium and gymnasium hall Gurdaspur on March 20, for Amritsar district at Khalsa College Senior Secondary School Amritsar on March 21 and for Tarntaran district selection trails to be held at Sri Guru Arjan Dev Senior Secondary School Tarntaran on March 22.

Similarly for Jalandhar and Kapurthala districts players should report at State School of Sports on March 24 whereas players from Bathinda, Faridkot, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Ferozepur and Fazilka should present for trails at Hockey Stadium Bathinda on March 24. Selection trails for district Ludhiana and Moga scheduled at Guru Nanak Stadium Ludhiana on March 26 and for SBS Nagar, Rupnagar and Hoshiarpur districts at Sports Stadium (ITI), Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar on March 26.

He informed that trails for Sangrur, Mansa and Barnala districts would be held at War Heroes Stadium Sangrur on March 27, for S.A.S Nagar at Sports Complex Sector 78, S.A.S Nagar on March 28 and for Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib districts players would have report at Polo Ground Patiala on March 28.

Spokesperson further added that players selected for hostels would be provided Rs. 200 per day diet money whereas day-scholars to get Rs. 100 per day for their meals besides sports equipments and kits would be imparted free of cost. Players shortlisted for sports academies would also get facilities like education, transport and medical facilities.

He said admissions forms were available free of cost at all district sports offices in the districts and candidates must bring along with original and self-attested certificates of their sports achievements, educational and birth certificates including two passport size photographs.
