Sports carnival and juniorthon held
Chandigarh, November 19, 2019: In an endeavor to promote health, fitness and disease-free lifestyle for the young generation, Northridge International School, Sector-46 Chandigarh organized a ‘Sports carnival’ for the age group 3-11 years at the school grounds here. The event was organised by the school in association with Sports 13, a sports management organization of tricity. What’s more, a juniorthon was held before the carnival in which children ran in the following races - 3 to 5 years old in 500 meters, 6 to 8 years old in 750 meters and 9 to 11 years old in 1.5 kms. Speaking on the occasion, Amrita Kaur, Principal Northridge International School said, “With the advent of internet, computers and television, children are leading a sedentary lifestyle, because they are either glued to their TV sets or playing and surfing on computers and smart-phones. This has led to various lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, heart problems etc even in kids. Also, obesity has become a major challenge for these children.” She further said, “In order to combat these issues, it is important to inculcate the habit of playing outside or developing a passion for sports that would ensure a certain amount of physical exercise. The juniorthon and sports carnival helped in spreading awareness about need for physical exercise among children.” Yadvinder Singh, Director Consultant, Sports-13 said, “Around 600-700 children from the different schools took part in the ‘sports carnival’ enthusiastically. The sports carnival saw children from 3 age groups participating in boys and girls category, in different distances.” During the event, all the children were given t-shirts, bib numbers, refreshments, and water. Winners got medals and gift hampers. What’s more, winner of bumper draw won a bicycle. There was proper security and medical aid arrangement for the children.
