Special Session of Interaction with Authors and Writers of Books in Indian Languages takes place at Panjab University

Chandigarh, November 24, 2023: Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with UGC hosted a session on the translation and authorship of textbooks for undergraduate students in sciences, social sciences and humanities as per the mandate of Nation Education Policy 2020 in Golden Jubilee Hall. The language teachers of the university and of the affiliated colleges along with research scholars attended the session in huge numbers.

The participants were briefed about the schedule 22 of NEP which highlights the pertinence of mother tongue and emphasizes the availability of textbooks in local and regional languages. This schedule highlights the concerns and recommendations related to promotion of Indian languages which has been taken up by UGC in a massive way. Teaching and learning of Indian languages need to be integrated with Higher Education at every level.

It was informed that a total of twelve languages (Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Odiya, Punjabi, Marathi, Assamese, Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam, Bengali, and Gujarati) have been identified for translation and writing of books. The session encouraged the faculty members to extend their ideas to further this cause and suggestions were well-taken. They shared their experiences and best practices of book-writing in Indian Languages enthusiastically.
