Chandigarh, March 6, 2024: The Department of Community Education and Disability Studies, Panjab University organised a special programme on “Mera Pehla Vote Desh Ke Liye” on Wednesday. 

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Youth Affairs have jointly launched a campaign in our country to encourage the youth to participate in the electoral process. During the programme, many activities conducted like; showing videos on awareness and encouragement to students to cast their vote, an open discussion on the role of teachers in creating awareness on the electoral process and a pledge taking ceremony. 

The Chairperson of the department, Dr.Md Saifur Rahman explained the importance of voting in our country and the role of youth in the electoral process with special reference to persons with disabilities and how a teacher’s guidance helps in setting up of an egalitarian society. An open discussion among the students was then initiated by Tanvi Kayshap and Aditi Jhouta through which students expressed their opinions on the topic. Faculty members, Professor Navleen Kaur, Professor Dazy Zaraby, Nitin Raj and Taukir Alam were present.
