Special lecture on “Demystifying AI and GenAI”
Panjab University's (PU) Department of Library and Information Science organised a special lecture on “Demystifying AI and GenAI.” The lecture was delivered by Prof. Sarbjeet Singh, UIET, PU, who explained the basic concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), and discussed their growing relevance in education, research, and information management.

Chandigarh, March 16, 2026: Panjab University's (PU) Department of Library and Information Science organised a special lecture on “Demystifying AI and GenAI.” The lecture was delivered by Prof. Sarbjeet Singh, UIET, PU, who explained the basic concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), and discussed their growing relevance in education, research, and information management.
Prof. Khushpreet Singh Brar, Chairperson, Department of Library and Information Science, PU addressed the increasing role of AI technologies in academic research, libraries, and modern information services, and highlighted the importance of understanding emerging technologies in the evolving information landscape.
During the lecture, Prof. Sarbjeet Singh elaborated on the working of AI tools and their applications across different sectors. He also discussed the advantages of AI technologies and drew attention to ethical concerns associated with their use, while encouraging students and researchers to adopt such technologies responsibly and uphold academic integrity.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion, where students and scholars engaged with the speaker on the future implications of AI in libraries and information sciences.
