Chandigarh, August 19, 2022: Department of Political Science in collaboration with Departments of Philosophy, Public Administration, Gandhian Studies and Library Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a special lecture on career guidance and counseling in Panjab University campus. Keshni Anand Arora, IAS (Retd.),Chairperson, Haryana Water Resources Authority and former Chief Secretary to Govt. Haryana delivered the address. She encouraged the participant students and researchers to consider joining civil services as it presents enormous opportunities to serve the society. A higher ranking civil servant is entrusted with several tasks of governance fairly early in the career i.e. handling the affairs of the government including framing, implementing and reviewing policies which require her to consult with various departments and elected representatives. Management and disbursement of various funds of the central government allocated for different schemes in an efficient and transparent manner so that the schemes and the policies are effectively implemented helping people especially the ones on the margin. She also delineated the distinct responsibilities of different all India and central services. She underlined the need to choose the profession of one’s own choice and do well. Speaking in the Gandhi Bhawan premise, she invoked Mahatma Gandhi, urging students to always keep the least advantaged people in mind in whatever profession they choose to enter, especially in the civil services. Her presentation was most instructive in guiding the students how to prepare/strategize for the competitive examinations. There was a long and intensive interaction with the students and researchers from different social sciences disciplines that followed the presentation by Arora.
