Special lecture-cum-demonstration by renowned musicologist and researcher Dr.(Prof.) Saroj Ghosh

Ludhiana, November 15, 2018: The postgraduate Department of Music Instrumental of Government College for Girls, Ludhiana recently organized a special lecture-cum-demonstration by a renowned musicologist and researcher Dr.(Prof.) Mrs.Saroj Ghosh form the Music Faculty of Panjab University, Chandigarh. The function was presided over by the college officiating Principal Mrs.Sharanjit Kaur, While Mrs.Santosh Raichand, an ex head of this department was the guest of honour.

The function started by presenting bouquet to the chief guest, while Dr. Yogesh Sharma, the presented head of Instrumental Music dept. presented the welcome address.

Ms. Damanpreet Kaur, a student of B.A. III gave a table solo performance, in which she presented Teen Taal on Tabla. After this, Prof. Mrs. Inderpreet Kaur read a brief account of the achievements of Dr. Saroj Ghosh.

The learned guest began by making some basic clarification about the evolution of sitar, after which she explained some basic raags like Yaman and Bilaval. Along With these explanations, she also gave a brief demonstration of the raags on sitar.

She subsequent went on to explain and demonstrate some complex raags, such as Vrindavani Sarang. Mudhumad Sarang and Samant Sarang. In the end she presented a brief dhun in Raag Kiravani.

Ms. Sharnajit Kaur Parmar, Dr. Pritam Kaur and Mrs. Baljit Kaur spoke very high of the performance by the guest scholar Mrs. Saroj Ghosh . Officiating principal Mrs. Sharanjit Kaur appreciated the contribution by the staff and students of Music Instrumental in making this function a great success. The function concluded by the vote of thanks by Ms. Sharanjit Kaur Parmar and presentation of Shawl and honorarium to the learned guest scholar, Dr. Saroj Ghosh by the principal and staff of Music instrumental department.
