Chandigarh, March 15, 2019: A special lecture on the topic ‘100 years of Jallianwala Bagh massacre’ was today organized at Dept. of Hindi, Panjab University, by its literary forum Kahi Ankhai. Dr.Gurmeet Singh, Chairperson, Department of Hindi, informed that the key speaker for today’s event was Prof.Anju Suri, Chairperson, Department of History. He also informed that the Dept will hold more programs in the coming month to commemorate the centenary year of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Prof Suri presented a vivid description of the circumstances and situations that led to the massacre and the explained in detail about the British atrocities and plight of people in Punjab during that era. She mentioned the significant role that this incident played in country’s freedom struggle. The lecture was followed by an interactive session where students and research scholars asked several questions pertaining to the incident.
The program was attended by Dr. Gurmeet Singh, Prof. Satyapal Sehgal from Dept of Hindi , Dr. Pankaj Srivastav from Dept of Philosophy and Dr. Bhavneet Bhatti from School of Communication Studies.
The program was conducted by Suambada, research scholar from Dept of Hindi. Students who participated in the discussion included Sumit, Nisha, Parveen Malik, Bobbyja, Rishabh Sharma and Ashwani Kalra.
