Sony SAB’s Tenali Rama embarks on a gripping new path with compelling mysteries and dynamic new characters

Sony SAB’s popular historical drama Tenali Rama is set to captivate audiences with a fresh narrative direction. While retaining its core spirit of wisdom and wit, the show now deepens its storytelling with a thrilling arc rooted in mystery and investigation—set in an era before modern tools and forensics.

This transition is marked by the entry of two compelling characters: Laxmanappa, played by Kunal Karan Kapoor, and the enigmatic Kotwal, portrayed by Nikhil Arya. Alongside Krishna Bharadwaj as Tenali Rama, the trio brings a powerful new synergy to the screen—solving intricate cases with keen observation, logic, and insight.

The upcoming episodes promise richly layered character interactions, unexpected alliances, and a deeper exploration of justice in a pre-tech world—underscoring how intellect and instinct shape every decision.

Nimisha Pandey, Programming Head, Sony SAB, adds: “Tenali Rama has always charmed audiences with his wit and wisdom. With this new narrative turn, we’ve taken the beloved character into uncharted territory—blending his legendary intelligence with gripping investigations. It’s Tenali like you’ve never seen him before—clever, curious, and solving mysteries that will keep you hooked. At SAB, we remain committed to delighting our viewers with fresh storytelling that surprises, entertains, and stays true to the heart of what they love.”

Abhimanyu Singh, Producer, Contiloe Pictures, elaborates: “When we began imagining this new chapter, we asked ourselves—how would layered investigations unfold in an era without forensics or technology? That question led us to craft a world where insight, reasoning, and presence of mind become the strongest tools. Tenali was one of the wittiest minds to have ever lived—solving crimes in a time when logic, wit, and deduction were the only means of arriving at the truth. This narrative shift is both creatively challenging and immensely rewarding, and we’re excited to bring this evolution to our viewers.”

Kunal Karan Kapoor (Laxmanappa) adds: "Laxmanappa is sharp, methodical, and shaped by a life of discipline. His approach is grounded in logic and careful observation, making his dynamic with Rama particularly interesting. Their collaboration doesn’t just solve situations—it reveals different ways of thinking. That contrast creates a narrative texture I believe audiences will enjoy."
