Sony SAB premiered its much-awaited detective comedy Eken Babu on 24th November, bringing Bengal’s beloved, unassuming sleuth Ekendra Sen (Anirban Chakrabarti) to Hindi television. After winning hearts through eight web seasons and three films, this quirky, food-loving detective now arrives on TV with his trademark wit, sharp observation, and unusual problem-solving style. Unlike intense crime-solvers, Eken Babu’s simple, everyday charm makes his extraordinary crime-solving even more delightful.
In the initial episodes, Eken Babu’s quirky arrival at a Bengaluru housing complex quickly turns serious when resident Kirit Patel is found dead in what the police call a suicide. But Eken’s sharp instincts say otherwise. As he studies the crime scene, questions residents, consults a mysterious astrologer, and uncovers Patel’s diary filled with secrets, his doubts only grow stronger. Piece by piece, he builds a case that points unmistakably to murder—leading to one burning question: if Patel didn’t kill himself, then who did?
Anirban Chakrabarti, who plays Eken Babu, shared, “What makes this track exciting is that Eken Babu walks into a case everyone has already dismissed as suicide, but his mind refuses to accept the obvious. He notices the tiniest inconsistencies—things most people wouldn’t even register—and that’s where his real strength lies. Playing Eken in this moment is especially thrilling because you see his instinct kick in, his curiosity sharpen, and his conviction grow until he’s ready to challenge what everyone else believes. That’s the essence of Eken Babu—he trusts his observations, even when no one else does.”
