Rohtak, February 10, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta on Monday directed that inmates lodged in the District Jail be provided short-term vocational training courses to enable them to become self-reliant and successfully reintegrate into society after release. He also instructed that a cleanliness drive be undertaken inside the jail premises, with inmates performing exemplary work being suitably rewarded.
The Deputy Commissioner was presiding over a review meeting at the local Mini Secretariat auditorium to assess the facilities and ongoing activities in the District Jail, along with overall security arrangements. He said that in collaboration with Punjab National Bank and Industrial Training Institutes, inmates should be imparted short-duration skill courses so that they can adopt self-employment opportunities upon release.
He noted that every year products manufactured by inmates are sent for sale at the Surajkund Crafts Mela, and directed officials to work in the direction of the “One Jail–One Product” concept. Possibilities of online marketing and sale of prison-made products were also to be explored to enhance earnings and visibility for such initiatives.
The Deputy Commissioner further instructed that Aadhaar enrolment camps be organised within the jail to ensure that inmates who are yet to obtain Aadhaar cards are covered. He emphasised the need for regular counselling sessions with psychiatrists, segregation and special care for inmates suffering from communicable diseases, periodic health check-ups and measures to promote literacy among prisoners. He also highlighted that quality legal aid is being provided in the district through the District Legal Services Authority.
In the area of recreation and overall well-being, he directed that a structured sports plan be prepared for inmates, including volleyball and football activities, along with strengthening of the jail library. Cultural programmes within the jail campus were also encouraged, and it was informed that Surya Namaskar sessions are already being conducted regularly.
During the meeting, facilities such as the alarm system, library, mess, control room, fire-safety arrangements and provision of safe drinking water were reviewed in detail. Jail Superintendent Satyawan and Deputy Superintendent Charan Singh were present during the review meeting.
