Ludhiana, April 6, 2026: Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Ludhiana in active collaboration with Ludhiana District Administration, has announced the launch of a landmark initiative in pursuance of the ongoing commitment to promote the welfare of migrant workers and mitigate reverse migration. This proactive measure is designed to ensure uninterrupted access to essential cooking fuel, thereby incentivizing migrant workers to continue their employment in Ludhiana and contribute to the region's economic growth.
New connections for 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders, along with refills, will now be provided directly at select Fair Price Shops (ration depots), eliminating the need for workers to visit distant LPG distributors.
Eligible migrant workers can obtain a new 5 kg FTL connection by presenting only their valid ID card as proof of identity. No additional documentation is required at the point of application.
To ensure immediate rollout, the six ration depots have been authorized in the first phase to dispense 5 kg FTL cylinders in the following areas: Satwanter Nagar Tibba Road, Durga Colony, Dhandari Khurd, Namdev Colony Jagirpur, Main Road, Barewal No. 7062, Kartar Chowk, New Janta Nagar and St.No. 8, Gobind Nagar, Shimla Puri.
Additional ration depots across Ludhiana district will be onboarded in subsequent phases based on demand and logistical feasibility, with regular updates to be communicated through official channels.
DC Himanshu Jain has asserted "Department of Food Supply and District Administration Ludhiana are working proactively round the clock to ensure regular supply of Cooking Fuel to migrant workers so that they don’t face any issues".
Department of Food Supply has also warned that strict action will continue against those found involved in unauthorized LPG handling or misuse of domestic cylinders.
