Six Indians, Including Four Punjabis, Safely Return from Iraq After Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora’s intervention
In a week’s time, a total of 10 Indians return from Iraq through Arora’s efforts

Ludhiana, August 14, 2025: Thanks to the persistent efforts of Punjab Cabinet Minister for Industry & Commerce, Investment Promotion and NRI Affairs Sanjeev Arora, in coordination with the Punjab Government, six Indian nationals—four from Punjab and two from Himachal Pradesh—safely landed at IGI Airport, New Delhi today from Iraq, where they had been living in distressing conditions.
In a press release issued here on Thursday, Arora listed the returnees as Sorav (Resident of Tarn Taran, Punjab), Gurpreet Singh (Village Chaunta, District Ludhiana, Punjab), Sanjeev Kumar (Sherpur Bahtian, District Hoshiarpur, Punjab), Abhilash Kumar (Sherpur Bahtian, District Hoshiarpur, Punjab), Tara Chand (Mandi District, Himachal Pradesh) and Charanjeet Swami (Mandi District, Himachal Pradesh). The individuals expressed heartfelt gratitude to Arora and the Punjab Government for their decisive intervention in bringing them back to their homeland.
Arora had taken up the matter with the Union Minister for External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, highlighting that these individuals were in dire straits in Iraq, where they had gone seeking employment. They had reportedly not received salaries for the past four months and were facing mistreatment. Concerned for their safety and well-being, they had conveyed a strong desire to return to India.
Responding to their plight, Arora formally requested urgent intervention from the Union Minister and also sent multiple emails to the Iraq Embassy to expedite their safe repatriation.
This marks the second such successful mission in recent days. Just six days ago, four other Punjabis—Gurpreet Singh, Surjeet Singh, Amarjit Singh, and Avtar Singh—had returned from Iraq under similar circumstances, again through the concerted efforts of Arora and the Punjab Government.
Arora said, “The safety and dignity of every Indian, no matter where they are in the world, is our foremost priority.”, adding, “I assure that the Punjab Government will continue to stand by our people in times of need.”
