Chandigarh, February 16, 2023: The stage is set for Elsewhere Foundation's second presentation -  ‘Rang Hori’, compositions on Basant and Holi by musician and musicologist, Shubha Mudgal, recipient of the Padma Shri honour on February 19, at 6:30 pm, CII Chandigarh. After enthralling the audience with Mahmood Farooqui’s multi-layered dastangoi - ‘Dastan-e-Karn Az Mahabharat’, held in November at the Rock Garden, Elsewhere’s founders, Sukant Deepak and Nagina Bains continue with their promise of bringing the best of art and arts to the city. Co-founder of Elsewhere, Nagina Bains, stressing the need to have more well-curated cultural events in the region said, "We know there is an audience. Our effort is to bring the best from across the country to the region and make the art space here more vibrant. Elsewhere's first presentation - Mahmood Farooqui's 'Dastan-e-Karn Az Mahabharat' received an overwhelming response, and I am sure Shubha Mudgal's 'Rang Hori' will enthrall music lovers on February 19."

Adding that Elsewhere is committed to working with artists from diverse genres, co-founder Sukant Deepak asserted it was an honour to host Padma Shri awardee Shubha Mudgal. "We both, like many in Chandigarh, are great admirers of her work. After this, Elsewhere will hold another major event in Chandigarh and also start with some art education programmes. I am glad we are able to do our bit for the cultural scene in the city. And yes, we will soon be seen in other cities across the country." CII-IWN and JW Marriott Hotel Chandigarh are part of ‘Rang Hori’ as partner and hospitality partners respectively.

It has been close to a decade since Shubha Mudgal last performed in Chandigarh. Looking forward to her concert in the city, Shubha said, “The abundance of music related to Holi makes it one of the most attractive festivals for students of music like myself. While I grew up in the city of Allahabad (now named Prayagraj) playing Holi with all the colour, abeer-gulal, revelry, fun and celebrations associated with the festival, it is the music and the compositions associated with Holi that have in many ways been real-life illustrations of the magnificent diversity and variety of Indian culture.”

Shubha Mudgal has been trained by some of the finest musicians and musicologists in India including eminent scholar-musician-composer Pandit Ramashreya Jha “Ramrang”, Pandit Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya and Pandit Vasant Thakar. She later learned stylistic techniques from well-known maestros Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki and Pandit Kumar Gandharva. She also received training in thumri from Smt. Naina Devi. The musician has also won recognition as a composer and has been closely involved with several projects related to music education in India. Formerly a member of the Central Advisory Board of Education constituted by the Government of India, she chaired a focus group discussing the need for introducing an arts education program in mainstream school education during the National Curriculum Framework 2005 and was recently invited by the Goa Institute of Management as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar.
