Narangwal (Ludhiana), August 25, 2013: Shooting as a sport discipline has received a new lease of life in Punjab with Rs 10 lakh prize money being awarded to winners in 15 separate events at the 14th Punjab Rifle Shooting Association (PRSA) inter school competition which concluded here today.
The decision to award prize money of Rs 21,000, Rs 14,000 and Rs 7,000 to the gold, silver and bronze medalists at the inter school championship is part of the new PRSA president and Punjab Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia’s plan to give a boost to shooting at the school level. Majithia had been unanimously elected president of the PRSA a few months back.
Majithia, who presided over the concluding function of the inter school shooting championship here, said the PRSA would now follow up with the hosting of the Punjab State Open Shooting championship soon. He said besides this world class shooting ranges would be established at Ludhaiana, Amritsar, Mohali and Bathinda. He said basic shooting ranges would simultaneously be set up at all district headquarters. He said “A” class jobs had also been provided to shooters who had excelled in the sport and that the sport budget had also been increased from Rs 12 crore to Rs 142 crore in 2013-14.
The event also witnessed international shooter and Khel Ratna awarded Ronjan Sodhi interacting with the participants.

In Peep Sight Air Riffle ISSF Jr. Men category: Fateh Singh Dhillon won gold medal by scoring 576 points.
In Peep Sight Air Riffle ISSF Jr. Women category: Samiksha Dhingra, Shreya Bublani and Jaspreet Kaur got first three positions respectively.
Open Sight Air Riffle NR Jr. Men Category: Jagdeep, Mansher and Manpreet won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
Open Sight Air Riffle NR Sub Jr. Men Category: Yadwinder, Swarndeep and Ajaypartap won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
Open Sight Air Riffle NR Jr. Women Category: Jasmeen Katodia, Venus Sharma and Jagdeep Kaur won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
Open Sight Air Riffle NR Sub Jr. Women Category: Preetinder Kaur won gold medal by scoring 278 points.
Peep Sight Air Riffle NR Jr. Men category: Rishab Kapoor, Zorawar Singh and Bikramjit Singh won first three positions.
Open Sight Air Riffle NR Jr. Men Category: Arshpreet Sekhon, Tanish Galhotra and Rajpreet Singh Loachni claimed gold, silver and bronze medals.
Peep Sight Air Riffle NR Jr. Women category: Ramanjit, Simranjeet and Gurmeet won first three positions.
Peep Sight Air Riffle NR Sub Jr. Women category: Navjeet Nijjar, Sayna Singhi and Penaz Heir claimed gold, silver and bronze medal respectively.
Air Pistol ISSF Jr. Men Category: Vikram Grewal, Harjaap Singh and Chandan Gill secured first three positions.
Air Pistol ISSF Jr. Women Category: Gurjeet Kaur, Jasmeet Kaur Gill and Gurnoor Kaur Goraya won first three positions.
Air Pistol NR Jr. Men category: Prabhjot Singh, Anirudh Kaushal and Lovejeet Singh claimed gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
Air Pistol NR Sub Jr. Men category: Ekam Singh Grewal, Damandeep Singh and Dilshan Kelley got first three prizes.
