Mohali, December 19, 2025: Strengthening access to quality maternal and child healthcare, Shalby Hospital Mohali has launched a dedicated Mother & Child Department, designed to support women and children through every stage of care from pregnancy and childbirth to newborn, infant, and paediatric health. The initiative focuses on public awareness, early diagnosis, and preventive healthcare to reduce avoidable risks for mothers and children.
The department was inaugurated by Harbax Singh Dhillon, IG Ops Western Command, BSF, in the presence of Dr Meenu Sharma, Associate Professor, Community Medicine, GMCH 32, Chandigarh, highlighting the growing need for integrated, community-level healthcare services for women and children.
The newly launched department brings together obstetrics, gynaecology, neonatology, and paediatrics under one roof, ensuring continuity of care and timely medical intervention. This integrated model plays a critical role in managing high-risk pregnancies, ensuring safe deliveries, and providing advanced medical support for newborns and children.
Highlighting the importance of specialised child care, Dr. Amit Nagpal, Senior Consultant, Paediatrics and Neonatology, said, “Timely access to advanced neonatal and paediatric care significantly improves survival and long-term health outcomes for children. When such facilities are available closer to home, families are able to seek care without delay, which is often life-saving.”
The department is equipped with a Level III NICU and a Paediatric ICU, designed to manage premature births, respiratory complications, infections, and other paediatric emergencies.
Emphasising the critical role of preventive maternity care, Dr. Col Arvinder Kaur Heer (Retd), Consultant, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, said, “Safe motherhood begins much before delivery. Regular antenatal check-ups, early identification of risk factors, nutritional guidance, and timely interventions are essential to protect the health of both mother and baby. With an integrated Mother & Child Department, we are better equipped to manage routine as well as high-risk pregnancies, ensuring safer deliveries and healthier outcomes.”
She further added, “Awareness among expectant mothers about warning signs during pregnancy and the importance of institutional deliveries can significantly reduce complications and maternal morbidity.”
Adding to this, Dr. Balvin Kaur Ghai, Consultant, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, noted, “Awareness and early screening for reproductive and hormonal health issues empower women to seek timely treatment, improve quality of life, and prevent long-term health complications.”
Speaking on the launch, Gladwin Sandeep Nayyar, Chief Administrative Officer, Shalby Hospital Mohali, said, “Our aim is to make quality mother and child healthcare easily accessible to families through integrated services under one roof.” The Mother & Child Department promotes early medical consultation, vaccination, balanced nutrition, and regular health check-ups, reaffirming Shalby Hospital Mohali’s commitment to safer pregnancies and healthier children across the region.
