Jalandhar: Serious allegations of negligence and breakdown of emergency services have emerged from Civil Hospital Jalandhar, raising concerns over the Punjab Government’s claims of improved healthcare infrastructure.
According to a formal complaint filed by social worker and political leader Angad Dutta, two disturbing incidents were witnessed late on the night of March 26, around 10:00 PM.
In the first incident, a patient in critical condition reportedly arrived at the hospital, but no medical staff came forward to assist. The attendant had to arrange a wheelchair independently and shift the patient to the emergency ward without any support. The incident has been termed as a “complete failure of emergency response.”
In another case, an ambulance reaching the hospital allegedly faced obstruction due to improper parking at the emergency entry gate, forcing it to stop midway. Such delays in emergency access are being viewed as a serious threat to patient safety.
The complaint further alleges gross negligence by hospital authorities, lack of emergency preparedness, absence of accountability among staff and violation of constitutional rights of patients.
Angad Dutta has also claimed to possess video evidence of the incidents and has demanded an immediate inquiry, strict action against responsible officials, and implementation of proper emergency protocols across government hospitals.
The matter has been escalated to multiple authorities, including the Chief Minister’s Office, Chief Secretary, Health Department, Police officials, and district administration.
As of now, no official statement has been released by the hospital administration or the Punjab Government regarding the allegations., he said in a statement.
He added the incident has once again brought attention to the gap between policy claims and ground realities in Punjab’s public healthcare system.
