Chandigarh, 15 September 2025: The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organised the “Sensitisation Lecture on Career Opportunities in Library and Information Science”. Professor Meena Sharma, Honorary Director, Centre Placement Cell, Panjab University, Chandigarh, welcomed the resource person, Dr. Seema Vasishta, Senior Librarian, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. Research scholars and students of B.Lib.I.Sc. and M.Lib.I.Sc. were present at the lecture.
Dr. Seema Vasishta emphasised the emerging prospects in the field of Library and Information Science. She highlighted how the profession has expanded beyond traditional libraries to include digital libraries, knowledge management, research support, data curation, and information technology applications. She further underlined the growing demand for skilled professionals in academic, public, special, and corporate libraries, as well as in publishing houses and international organizations. The lecture motivated participants to explore diverse career avenues and acquire the necessary digital and research skills to succeed in today’s information society. The session concluded with a vibrant question-and-answer session.
