Senior Physician Dr. Jawahar Dhir Honoured with ‘Dhanvantari Award’ by the Punjab Government
In a grand and impressive ceremony organized by the Registrar, Department of Ayurveda, Government of Punjab, at the Municipal Building, Chandigarh, senior Ayurvedic physicians from across the state were honoured with the prestigious ‘Dhanvantari Award’. The event was held under the chairmanship of Kumar Rahul, Principal Secretary, Department of Medical Education, Punjab.

Phagwara, October 17, 2025: In a grand and impressive ceremony organized by the Registrar, Department of Ayurveda, Government of Punjab, at the Municipal Building, Chandigarh, senior Ayurvedic physicians from across the state were honoured with the prestigious ‘Dhanvantari Award’. The event was held under the chairmanship of Kumar Rahul, Principal Secretary, Department of Medical Education, Punjab.
Dr. Jawahar Dhir, retired District Ayurvedic and Unani Officer, Ludhiana, was conferred this honour by Kumar Rahul, Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department; Dr. Sanjeev Goyal, Registrar; Dr. Sanjeev Sood, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Ravidas University, Hoshiarpur; Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Former Chairman, National Council of Indian Medicine System, Government of India; and Dr. Avnish Kumar, Director, Research and Medical Education.
On this occasion, former Director of the department Dr. Ravi Doomra stated that Dr. Jawahar Dhir, who was earlier felicitated by the then Prime Minister Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has rendered dedicated service to society through Ayurvedic treatment during his 35 years of government service and even after retirement. He described Dr. Dhir as a multifaceted personality who has authored seventeen books and has significantly contributed to society and literature through Doordarshan, All India Radio, and various newspapers and magazines.
In the presence of hundreds of eminent personalities from the medical fraternity across Punjab, Dr. Jawahar Dhir was presented with a citation, a grand ‘Amrit Kalash’, and a metal idol of Lord Dhanvantari encased in glass as a mark of honour from the department. His wife, Vandana Dhir, was also present on this special occasion.
