Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon leads delegation to Chandigarh Administrator over headmasters’ pay anomaly
Tandon seeks time-bound resolution of long-pending salary discrepancies; Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria assures prompt consideration
Chandigarh, August 17, 2026: Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon who is also a member of the party's National Council and Co-Incharge of Himachal Pradesh BJP, led a delegation of the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh to Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, seeking resolution of the long-pending pay anomalies affecting headmasters in Chandigarh.
The delegation included Dr Dharmendra Shastri, Sanyogita, Harmaneet Kaur and Anuradha Gupta.
Raising the issue before the Administrator, Tandon pointed out that following the implementation of Central Pay Scales and Central Service Rules in Chandigarh from April 1, 2022, significant pay discrepancies had arisen for around 45 serving headmasters as well as recently retired headmasters.
He explained that teachers promoted from the TGT cadre to the post of Headmaster in secondary-level schools were continuing to receive the TGT pay scale despite shouldering the responsibilities of a higher post. The delegation sought implementation of the appropriate higher pay scale, an issue that has remained pending for nearly three years.
Tandon said, “A promotion to a higher post comes with greater responsibility, and employees must receive the benefits and pay scale legitimately attached to that responsibility. The issue of headmasters’ pay anomaly is genuine and deserves a fair and time-bound resolution. I have requested the Administrator to ensure that the matter is examined sympathetically and resolved in accordance with the applicable rules.”
After hearing the delegation, Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria assured that he would take up the matter with senior officials of the Education Department. He also said that the issue would be discussed with the concerned officials during the public hearing at the new Secretariat so that a just solution could be worked out.
Tandon expressed gratitude to the Administrator for giving the delegation a patient hearing and assuring prompt consideration of the issue. He said that the legitimate concerns of teachers and school heads deserved timely attention and a fair resolution. The delegation thanked Sanjay Tandon for taking up their issues with the Administrator in the right earnest.
