Chandigarh, August 13, 2026: Senior BJP leader and member of the party's National Council Sanjay Tandon has strongly condemned the attack on Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal in Nanded, Maharashtra, and demanded the harshest possible punishment for the guilty.
“I strongly condemn the attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal in Nanded. Such an act of violence against a senior political leader is completely unacceptable. There can be no place for violence in a democracy,” Tandon said.
Tandon added that it's even more distressing that the attack took place at Nanded Sahib, an important pilgrimage center associated with Guru Gobind Singh Ji . It's disconcerting that Sukhbir Ji was attacked when he came to pay obeisance at the Gurudwara.
Tandon said the incident was particularly painful for him given his family's longstanding association with the Badal family. He recalled that his late father, Balram Das Tandon, had a close political and organisational association with the Shiromani Akali Dal and had served as a Cabinet Minister in governments headed by Sukbir's father - late Parkash Singh Badal.
“My family has shared a long and close association with the Badal family. My late father, Balramji Das Tandon, worked alongside Parkash Singh Badal and served as a Cabinet Minister in his governments. This association has been built over decades and carries deep personal significance for our family,” Tandon said.
“I am deeply distressed by the attack on Sukhbir. I stand firmly with him and the Badal family at this difficult moment,” he said.
Tandon further appealed to all political and social groups to reject violence and uphold the democratic values of the country. Tandon also wished Sukhbir Singh Badal a speedy recovery.
