Seminar on ‘skill development’ organised at Community College GGN Khalsa 

Ludhiana: Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College organised National Seminar on ‘Skill Development: The Road Ahead-Opportunities & Challenges on Saturday morning. The seminar was organised by Community College of GGN Khalsa College, which was established in 2018. This seminar was organised to promote skill development in commerce and IT sector to discuss about the challenges and opportunities in the field. The college is taking the initiative for the growth of their college youngsters who will be the future of this country.  

The seminar commenced with the welcome address by the former Vice-Chancellor, GNDU, Amritsar and Honorary Secretary, GGNKC, Dr SP Singh. Addressing the students and faculty, Dr S.P. Singh said, “We have taken the initiative of organising the seminar for the welfare of young students under the aegis of community college. We have started four B.Voc and three courses in Community college with the approval of UGCE & MHRD, New Delhi.” The introduction to the theme of seminar was addressed by the Nodal Officer Community College, Professor Asha Rani.  Addressing the function, Professor Asha said, “

After the introductory sessions seminar was commenced on the Skill Development. During the seminar, stage was conducted by Professor Manpreet Kaur.  The Key note speaker of the seminar was Dr. M.S. Manna, Associate Professor, (EIE), SLIET Sangrur (Punjab). The chief guest on the occasion was Dr. B.K. Jha, Chief Commissioner, Income Tax, Punjab and J&K.

Dr. B.K. Jha, chief guest talking about skill development, said that India has witnessed rapid growth in recent years, driven by the development of new-age industries. The rise in the purchasing power has resulted in the demand for a new level of quality of service. With the changing economic environment, it is essential to focus on imparting and promoting the skill sets of the young population of India as the countries with advanced and improved levels of skills adjust more effectively to the opportunities and challenges of world of work. In spite of the emphatic stress laid on education and training in India, there is still a shortage of skilled manpower to address rising demands of the economy.

While the  Keynote speaker of one-day seminar, Dr. Manna opened up dialogues and deliberations in many core areas of how Education and Economy get connected through skills, workplace, qualifications, mobility, parity, equivalence, industry requirements, financial support, and outreach. He suggested the participants to create entrepreneurial opportunities out of the most basic needs around them. It urged to be more attentive and realise their true potential to move ahead in life by overcoming all challenges. He said that fast growing trend of MOOC has taken over student community worldwide and in the present digital world it’s the need of the hour to upgrade their knowledge.

The guest of honour addressing the seminar said that National Skill Development department in India has a mission to empower all individuals through improved knowledge, skills, and qualifications of the youth.

In the end of the seminar vote of thanks was extended by the Principal of GGN Khalsa College, Ludhiana, Dr. Arvinder Singh thanked the guests for their esteemed presence and guiding their students on the role of skill development.

The Management members present during the seminar includes Kuldeep Singh, Hardeep Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Harjeet Singh. Last but not the least Professor Ramanpreet Kaur was organising secretary of the seminar. It was followed by the lunch for the guests and faculty.
