Second webinar on covid-19: Management and therapeutic interventions

Chandigarh: The Department of Biophysics, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a second webinar on “COVID-19: Management and therapeutic interventions” on 12th June, 2020. The webinar was convened by Dr. Sarvnarinder Kaur, Chairperson and Dr. Simran Preet, Assistant Professor, Department of Biophysics. The Chairperson welcomed everyone and introduced the speaker in her introductory note. 
The speaker of the Day was Dr. Mandeep Singh Bhatia, (M.D. Internal Medicine), Assistant Professor, Incharge Fevere Acute Respiratory Infection and Covid-19 Screening Ward (FARI), PGIMER, Chandigarh. She also thanked the Vice Chancellor for his continuous encouragement to the faculty to conduct such interactive webinars especially on the prevailing pandemic situation of Covid-19. Over 75 participants from various departments and institutes participated in the webinar.  Prof. V.R. Sinha, Dean Research Panjab University Chandigarh addressed the participants and in his remarks emphasized on the need for sanitization, social distancing and hygiene in the current era of pandemic. Dr. Mandip Bhatia presented an elaborated view on management of COVID-19 patients, the treatment options currently available and the ethical concerns associated with the therapy of the patients.  He presented his prospective on various therapeutic interventions like hydroxychloroquine, Remedesvir, plasma therapy etc and their current status of clinical trials. He also addressed various concerns raised by the participants like the risks associated with patients with comorbidities like asthma, diabetes and pulmonary TB. Dr. Mandip was of a strong view that people should not be scared but be made aware about protecting themselves from COVID-19.  
At the end, the Chairperson thanked Prof. V.R. Sinha and Dr. Mandeep Bhatia for giving insight of Covid-19 and all the participants for joining the webinar.  Prof. Sinha appreciated the efforts of the organizers for putting up a webinar on the management and therapeutic interventions of Covid-19.
