Child Help Foundation, Alkem and Western Railway inaugurate second ‘baby feeding centre’ at Boisar Station

Mumbai: In continuation with the initiative of launching Baby Feeding Centre, Child Help Foundation, nation-wide NGO in child care, in association with Western Railways (Mumbai Division) and Alkem Laboratories Ltd. , inaugurated Western Railway’s second ‘Baby Feeding Centre’ at Boisar Railway station, Maharashtra. The Centre was inaugurated by Mr. Sandesh Chiplunker, CCI, Western Railways, Mr. Albert Peter, General Manager, Alkem Laboratories Ltd. along with Mr. Jiji John, Executive Director, Child Help Foundation. Through this initiative the Foundation aims at providing the best possible facility to nursing mothers who need not worry about breast-feeding their babies while travelling.

Located on platform number two and three the feeding center is well secured and offers privacy to nursing mother who otherwise face inconvenience in feeding their babies while travelling. Boisar, an industrial suburb of Mumbai is fast becoming a residential hub with many upcoming infrastructural and residential projects. As railway happens to be best mode of transport, Boisar Railway station, which is also a terminus where many express trains stop, serves to be an important station. Taking into account the increasing populace, growing commercial activities, dependency on railway services, the Foundation decided to set up a ‘Baby Feeding Centre’ at the station. For toddlers, having breast milk for the initial six months is mandatory because of the nutrition quotient present in the milk. This helps the toddler to build a healthy immune system and live a healthier life ahead. Also, the bond between the mother and the child grows stronger and empowers both to lead a heathy life. This initiative is in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No.3 of “Good Health and Wellbeing”.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Jiji John, Executive Director, Child Help Foundation said, “Child Help Foundation has successfully implemented the Baby Feeding Centre in Boisar Railway station in association with Western Railways and Alkem Laboratories Ltd. on World Cancer Day. While the Baby Feeding Centre would encourage the lactating mothers to be comfortable in feeding babies, it also would increase the immunity power of the child, including protection from Cancer.”

Mr. Albert Peter, General Manager, Alkem Laboratories Ltd. said “We at Alkem Laboratories Ltd., look forward strongly towards the social commitment aimed at Nation Building. It was a great feeling for Alkem when Child Help Foundation wanted an association with us to partner to build a baby feeding centre on the Boisar Railway platform. Among first of its kind by a corporate, Alkem immediately agreed to collaborate in the unique initiative and is thankful to all our stakeholders who have joined hands together”

Further, Mr. Sandesh Chiplunker, CCI, Western Railways added “Child Help Foundation and Alkem Foundation have successfully implemented the Baby Feeding Centre in Boisar Station which has been a wonderful initiative of Child Help Foundation. Western Railways has always been progressive in implementing facilities for the railway passengers and this baby feeding facility will definitely be of a very great help to the lactating mothers who can comfortably nurse their children with love and care away from the unwanted gaze of others.”

This is the second centre to be launched after the successful launch of the first centre at Palghar Railway station which has received tremendous response. Western Railways has decided to go ahead with 14 railway stations with similar facilities for the nursing mothers.
