Chandigarh, January 23, 2014: The Co-ordinated investigations of the Punjab Police in association with the Mumbai Police Crime Branch, into the Devinder Singh @ Dev masterminded international synthetic drug racket had led to the arrest of Dr. Sanjay Goel from New Delhi and Basant Srivastav from Mumbai. After effecting these arrests, search warrants for conducting search of premises of pharmaceutical factories were obtained and searches were conducted in a co-ordinated manner along with the Crime Branch.

Disclosing this here today, Dinkar Gupta, ADGP/Security stated that search and seizure of the premises of M/s Medicraft Pvt. Ltd in Thane, Maharashtra carried out on January 17 and 18, 2014 has yielded large quantity of raw materials for synthetic drugs and precursor chemicals. Investigations have also revealed that large quantity of raw material for manufacture of precursor chemicals has been incinerated in a suspicious manner. He revealed that The Police party has recovered 42 litres of Monomethyl Amine (raw material for methamphetamine), extremely potent raw material from which ICE is manufactured directly and 881 Kg of Diphenoxylate Hydrochloride, being used for manufacturing lomotil, phenotil, momotil- widely misused in Punjab, while 3500 kg of O-Chlorophely  Cyclopentyl Ketone- incinerated in December 2013. It is raw material for manufacturing ketamine, the licenses for which were cancelled on May 30, 2006.

He said that the police remand of arrested persons Dr. Sanjay Goel and Basant Srivastav has been obtained till January 25, 2014. They are being questioned for establishing cross-linkages, corroboration of inputs and further unveiling the modus operandi of the synthetic drug racket. He further said that Dr. Sanjay Goel was M.D. in Radiology and left clinical medicine to join the pharmaceutical industry. He is widely travelled and maintains an affluent lifestyle with a palatial bungalow in Mumbai. Dr. Sanjay Goel is the owner of the Sanvin Group of Companies which comprises the six companies namely Medicraft Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., Pioneer Agro Industries Pharmaceutical Pvt. Ltd. , Sanvin Laboratories , Sanvin Exports, Medigraph India Pvt. Ltd. and Sonica Chemicals Pvt. Ltd.- a collaborative joint business venture.
