Scientifically designed regional warehouses being setup for safe storage of drugs with Rs 376.39 lakh: Mittal

Chandigarh, August 20, 2013: Punjab Government is setting up scientifically designed three regional warehouses at Verka, Amritsar, Bathinda and Kharar, Ajitgarh. These warehouses are being established by the Punjab Health System Corporation with the cost of Rs 376.39 lac.

Divulging this here today, Madan Mohan Mittal, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Punjab said that these regional warehouses are being constructed as per the designs of warehouses of Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC). Construction of these three Regional Warehouses is expected to be completed by October 31 this year.

He said that Warehouse at Verka, Amritsar is being constructed with the cost of Rs 141.21 lac, Ware house at Bathinda is being constructed with the cost of Rs 116.53 lac and Ware house at Kharar, Ajitgarh is being constructed with the cost of Rs 118.65 lac.

Mittal said that Punjab Government is presently providing more than 300 medicines free in the government hospitals and this number would be increased in the near future. He said that these ware houses are being setup for storage and timely distribution of medicines and putting in place an online inventory management system for ensuring effective online management and monitoring of drugs. He added that this would also bring transparency in the supply and purchase of drugs. He said that these warehouses would be equipped with all ultra modern facilities for safe storage of drugs.

Vinni Mahajan, Principal Secretary for Health and Family Welfare Punjab said that with the establishment of these regional warehouses and putting an online inventory management system in place will streamline the procurement and distribution of drugs and consumables. She added that this would also establish online link between State Headquarter, Regional warehouses and hospitals which would  enable assessment of requirements of drugs as per the past consumption pattern, deciding reordering levels, identify fast and slow moving drugs, Monitor testing of drugs by generating secret codes, monitor value of drugs drawn from the stores by the hospitals vis-a-vis performance/ norm/ workload/ entitlement of the hospitals, Each and every batch of drugs will be easily locatable, Online tracking of drug inventory at various health institutions in the state, supplier wise track record to provide a profile of suppliers,  tracking of supplies from the manufacturing premises of the suppliers to the Regional Warehouses.
