The second day of 2nd International & 5th National Conference of Indian Society for Rational Pharmacotherapeutics on the theme: Quest for Responsible Use of Medicines witnessed several scientific sessions on topics related to Cardiology, Neurology and Industry interphase being held at Ludhiana on Friday.

Ludhiana, January 31, 2014: The second day of 2nd International & 5th National Conference of Indian Society for Rational Pharmacotherapeutics on the theme: Quest for Responsible Use of Medicines witnessed several scientific sessions on topics related to Cardiology, Neurology and Industry interphase.
Dr KK Sharma, President, Indian Society for Rational Pharmacotherapeutics, delivered a keynote address on ‘Responsible use of Medicines’. In his message, Dr Sharma talked about personal drug, its selection and Rationale drug use. Prof PL Sharma delivered key note address on ‘Placebo’ and its status in current scenario.  
Organizing Secretary-Dr Sandeep Kaushal (Professor & Head of Pharmacology) expressed gratitude to the medical pharmacologists and delegates for participating in the on-going conference
In the scientific session held on ‘Cardiology update’ Dr GS Wander, Chief Cardiologist, HDHI elaborated on ‘Indian Hypertension Guidelines’. In his lecture, Dr Wander was mentioned that Lifestyle modification programs have been effective in reducing the burden of hypertension and recommendation for selection of drugs as per needs of Indian population. Dr Avtar Lal from Canada spoke on ‘Role of Systematic review in Evidence Based Clinical Practice Guidelines’
Other topics covered during different scientific sessions included debate on ‘Current Status of Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM)’ by Dr Sangeeta Sharma from New Delhi. Dr Gagandeep Singh, Prof. & Head of Neurology, DMCH spoke on ‘Cancer, Epilepsy and Anti-epileptic drugs’ (Both cancer and epilepsy are common disorders.Cancer affects one in three individuals and accounts for 27% of all deaths. On the other hand, epilepsy has a life-time prevalence of 4 per 100,000 people, said Dr Gagandeep Singh) followed by lecture on Drug-induced kidney disease by Dr OP Kalra from New Delhi. Lecture on ‘Current issues of Clinical trial and challenges in compensation to clinical trial related injury’ was given by Dr YK Gupta from AIIMS, New Delhi and also ‘Challenges of under reporting of ADRs’ by Dr Vishal Tandon from Jammu.
In the post-lunch session, Dr Q Mukaddam from Mumbai spoke on ‘Current status of ‘Responsible use of medicines: Industry experience’ and Dr Sandeep Kaushal gave a talk  on ‘Status of Pharmacovigilance in India’.
