Scientific lecture organised at Panjab University

Chandigarh, August 17, 2022: The Department of Zoology, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with Chandigarh Region Innovation & Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC) organized a scientific lecture today. Dr. Sanjeev Khosla, Director IMTECH, was the guest speaker on this occasion. Dr. Y.K. Rawal welcomed the guests on this occasion. Prof. Gaurav Verma (CRIKC coordinator), Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, Faculty members and 100 students from different department were present during the occasion. Dr. Archana Chauhan coordinated the program. 

Dr. Khosla gave a talk on epigenetic inheritance. He started the talk with the basics of epigenetic inheritance emphasizing on various molecular events responsible for epigenetic modifications such as DNA and histone modifications etc. He elaborated the topic by sharing his research work done on the DNMT3L gene in drosophila and discussed the effect of accumulation of epimutations on the cells causing several diseases such as cancer. He highlighted that that epigenetic changes might not show immediate phenotypic changes rather they keep on accumulating through generations till it reaches the threshold and start showing the phenotype. Students actively participated in this scientific interaction.
