Science Talk: A tool for learning science and developing language

Jalandhar: Ivy World School under the aegis of the Vasal Education Society always endeavours to give a platform to the children to outshine their talent. With the aim of honing the scientific skills of the students, “Inter House Science Talk” was organized for students of classes IV to VIII. Participating with great zeal and enthusiasm, the students showed great scientific temperament. Science talk is an instructional discourse practice that capitalizes on this enthusiasm and gives students regular and deliberate opportunities to process their thinking and communicate about what they have seen and done. The direct and engaging experiences of hands-on, inquiry-based science drew out students’ sense of wonder, and readily lend themselves to conversation. Students were excited by their discoveries, which motivated them to share, discuss, and debate their ideas with others. Through exchanging views with others, students developed their understanding of the science beyond what could be achieved individually. Principal Ms. Sanjeev Chauhan applauded the efforts made by the students and also encouraged them to create their unique identity.
