Save Industry – FICO Urges CM to Resolve MLU Issue
30 September Deadline Over, But No Relief for MLU Industries
Ludhiana, October 3, 2026: Gurmeet Singh Kular, President, FICO, met Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chief Minister of Punjab, and raised the issue of industries working in Mixed Land Use (MLU) areas of Ludhiana.
FICO said that the 30 September 2026 deadline has passed, but thousands of industries are still waiting for a clear decision from the Punjab Government.
Kular said that many industries in these areas have been working for the last 35–40 years or more. Industrialists have invested their life savings in their land, buildings, machines and business.
He said that shifting these industries is not possible for most MSMEs. Small industries cannot afford to buy new industrial land, build new factories and shift heavy machines. Shifting will also increase costs, stop production and may affect employment.
FICO demanded that the established MLU areas should be declared as Industrial Areas and the existing industries should be regularised through a simple and practical policy.
Kular said, “The deadline has passed, but the industry cannot be left in uncertainty. These industries have been working at these locations for decades. They provide employment and support Punjab’s economy. We request the Chief Minister to save these industries and give them a permanent solution.”
FICO appealed to the Punjab Government to take an early decision in the interest of thousands of MSMEs, workers and their families, said Kular.
