Saras Mela becomes beacon for plastic-free campaign as over 1.13 lakh cloth bags used during event 

In a bid to spread the message of clean, green, and pollution free environment, Ludhiana District Administration has conducted the SARAS mela in a plastic-free manner wherein over 1.13 lakh cloth bags were distributed among masses.

Ludhiana, November 7, 2023: In a bid to spread the message of clean, green, and pollution free environment, Ludhiana District Administration has conducted the SARAS mela in a plastic-free manner wherein over 1.13 lakh cloth bags were distributed among masses. 

Giving more information, Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik said that the administration had decided to keep this event plastic-free and about 1,13,000 cloth bags were used during the entire event between October 27 and November 5. 

She further mentioned that these bags were distributed among artisans, and other stall vendors for packing of their products so that utilisation of plastic bags can be discouraged. Likewise, metal and wooden utensils were also provided across the food counters, which were used to serve food item to visitors. 

She stated that the stall holders were directed not to use plastic bags as it can further lead to environmental pollution. The aim behind this move was to spread maximum awareness among masses against plastic use while motivating them to use cloth bags for their routine shopping tasks. 

The Deputy Commissioner also lauded the efforts of entire team for executing this plastic-free concept successfully during this mega event. She also urged the people to shun use of plastic bags in their routine chores.
