Ludhiana, April 14, 2026: Reaffirming the Punjab Government’s commitment to transparent governance and citizen-centric urban development, Sanjeev Arora, Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Punjab, today oversaw the draw of lots for Atal Apartments conducted by the Improvement Trust, Ludhiana, at Nehru Sidhant Kendra in response to strong public demand.
On this occasion, the Minister paid floral tributes to B. R. Ambedkar on his 135th birth anniversary.
He stated that the scheme has already gained premium value and received overwhelming public response, with nearly ten times more applications than the number of available flats. He emphasized that the entire draw process is being conducted in a transparent manner, with applicants being invited to witness the process.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister highlighted the overwhelming response to the housing scheme. A total of 571 applications were received across various categories for 43 HIG flats, while 963 applications were submitted for 136 MIG flats,
About 70–80% of the construction work has already been completed, with only finishing work remaining. Possession of the flats is planned by the end of this year;
reflecting the trust and confidence of the public in the functioning of the Improvement Trust.
Emphasizing the government’s focus on strengthening urban infrastructure, the Minister announced that tenders for three new community centres in Kitchlu Nagar, Model Town Extension, and Kabir Society (SBS Nagar) will be floated within the next month. He further informed that the Local Government Department has finalized rate contracts for large-scale de-silting of sewage systems across Punjab. Under this initiative, nine contractors will be deployed round-the-clock to prevent waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon season in the State.
The Minister reiterated that such proactive measures are part of a broader strategy to improve civic amenities and ensure better quality of life for residents across urban areas.
The Chairman of the Improvement Trust, Ludhiana, stated that the initiative has received an encouraging response from the general public, who appreciated the transparent and efficient completion of the entire process—from application submission to the conduct of the draw.
