S. S. Bhogal’s Appointment to PU Skill2Market Advisory Body Adds Another Feather to SCD Govt College Ludhiana's Alumni Cap

Ludhiana, October 1, 2026: The SCD Government College Ludhiana Alumni Association has expressed great pride over the appointment of its Patron Surinder Singh Bhogal, an eminent industrialist, as the only industrialist from Punjab on the Advisory Body constituted by the Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University for the PU Skill2Market Hub. The Advisory Body has been constituted to provide guidance and oversight for the effective functioning and overall development of the PU Skill2Market Hub, an initiative aimed at identifying, nurturing and creating market opportunities for student talent across Panjab University’s affiliated colleges.
Senior Patron Onkar Singh Pahwa and Executive Committee members  K. B. Singh, P. D. Gupta, Brij Bhushan Goyal, Gitanjali Pabreja, O. P. Verma, Dalbir Singh Mauli and Navdeep Singh have warmly congratulated S. S. Bhogal, describing his inclusion in the select university-level body as another significant achievement and a matter of pride for the SCD alumni fraternity. Principal Gursharan Singh Sandhu (also an alumnus of the college) has described Bhogal's inclusion in PU advisory body as acknowledgment of our alumni ingenuity and his entrepreneurial insights in particular as he will be giving new dimensions from his experience for skilling and reskilling our youth.
The Alumni Association said that Bhogal’s presence on the Advisory Body was particularly significant because the initiative seeks to establish a meaningful bridge between higher education, skills, entrepreneurship and the world of industry. His experience as an industrialist can provide an important practical perspective on product quality, marketability, pricing, branding and the requirements of actual markets. The proposed PU Skill2Market Hub covers nearly 200 Panjab University-affiliated colleges across eight districts of Punjab. The draft proposal envisages a three-tier structure comprising College Skill2Market Forums, District Skill2Market Forums and a State Skill2Market Forum.
Quoting from the scheme as informed by Bhogal,  Goyal Organising secretary of Alumni association said that, at the college level, the proposed mechanism will identify talented students and facilitate the promotion and sale of marketable products created by them. It will also address quality control, standardisation, collection and aggregation of products, packaging, logistics and local exhibitions. Students from commerce and management streams are proposed to participate in designing and developing the marketing system along with students actually creating the products. At the district level, the proposed forums will aggregate products from participating colleges, ensure quality and standardisation, facilitate district-level exhibitions and coordinate logistics and sales promotion. The State Skill2Market Forum will provide a wider framework for common branding, pricing strategy, online and offline sales, buyer partnerships, revenue collection and distribution. The proposal seeks to encourage students in diverse areas including dress designing, embroidery, fine arts, food and hospitality, IT services, handicrafts, applied arts and indigenous crafts. It aims not merely at selling student-made products but at developing an ecosystem that promotes entrepreneurship, employability, self-reliance and fair income-sharing under university oversight. A further component envisages a central PU Skill2Market Portal carrying college-wise and category-wise product listings, order processing, digital payments, sales analytics and appropriate financial and data-security safeguards. The proposal, however, provides that the initiative would initially focus on physical marketing and sales, with an online platform to be introduced subsequently depending upon market response and the recommendations of the Advisory Committee.
The Alumni Association members felt that the initiative could become particularly meaningful if it gave adequate space to traditional crafts, indigenous skills and locally rooted products, while simultaneously ensuring contemporary design, quality, packaging and access to wider markets. Congratulating  S. S. Bhogal, the Alumni Association members said that his association with such a significant university initiative reflected the growing recognition of the SCD Government College alumni community in academic, professional and industrial spheres. They expressed confidence that his experience and contribution to the Advisory Body would further strengthen the industry-academia interface and help translate student talent into sustainable opportunities.
Alumni hoped that their own college as well as other colleges will come forward to avail this new initiative.
