Ludhiana, April 22,2026: Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Poonam Singh on Wednesday directed officials of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department and all procurement agencies to significantly accelerate the lifting of wheat from the grain markets by setting clear daily targets.
While reviewing the ongoing wheat procurement arrangements, Singh emphasized that the district administration is making concerted efforts to ensure a smooth and efficient procurement process. She noted that the Punjab government is closely monitoring the arrangements to facilitate seamless procurement, timely payments to farmers, and prompt lifting of produce as per established guidelines. 
 informed that payments totalling Rs 609 crore have already been released to farmers for the wheat procured so far. The district has received 3,02,806 metric tons of wheat in its mandis, out of which 2,87,700 metric tons have been formally procured by various agencies. She acknowledged the efforts being made by the agencies but stressed the need for greater momentum in lifting the procured wheat. 
The ADC made it clear that any delay or laxity in lifting operations will not be tolerated, warning that strict action would be taken against negligent officials. She also asked them to work hard to achieve the set target.  She instructed all concerned officials to carry out wheat lifting in a systematic and efficient manner so that farmers do not face any inconvenience. 
Reiterating the Punjab government’s commitment to procure every single grain from farmers, she assured that the district administration will leave no stone unturned in ensuring hassle-free and timely procurement.
