Rohtak, March 25, 2026: In a major initiative to improve soil health and enhance agricultural productivity, Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta announced that a ₹4.5 crore project is being implemented to reclaim saline-affected agricultural land in Kalanaur Kalan and Madoudhi Jatan–Ragdan areas of the district.
Chairing a review meeting of the Agriculture Department, the Deputy Commissioner said that the project will significantly improve farming conditions by addressing the issue of salinity and groundwater imbalance.
Under the project:
• A Vertical Drainage System will be established
• Underground pipelines will be laid to drain out saline groundwater
• Around 3000 acres (1500 acres each in two villages) will be covered
Additionally, 20 solar-powered drainage tubewells will be installed in each village after the wheat harvesting season and extracted saline water will be safely diverted into drains. This system will help to reduce soil salinity levels, control groundwater levels and improve soil fertility and crop yield.
The Deputy Commissioner highlighted key soil concerns in the district:
• Around 1% land deficient in phosphorus
• Nearly 14% land deficient in zinc
• About 30% land deficient in iron
He urged farmers to adopt organic and sustainable farming practices to restore soil health. Farmers have been advised to:
• Use vermicompost, farmyard manure and biogas slurry regularly
• Cultivate and incorporate green manure crops such as dhaincha, jowar or moong before kharif season
• Focus on long-term soil enrichment
The Deputy Commissioner informed that:
• A target of 20,000 acres has been set for green manure cultivation in the district
• Farmers can register on the “Meri Fasal Mera Byora” portal
• Last date for registration: April 15, 2026
Under the scheme, Farmers will receive ₹1000 per acre subsidy. They must upload seed purchase bills and crop photos on the portal.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the timely implementation of the project, extensive awareness campaigns for farmers and adoption of modern techniques along with organic practices.
The Deputy Commissioner said, “Improving soil health is essential for sustainable agriculture. This project will help farmers reclaim their land, increase productivity and ensure long-term agricultural prosperity.”
