Chandigarh, September 8, 2023: On the occasion of the World Literacy Day, Rotary Club of Chandigarh gave away scholarships to 34 students at a function organised at the Rotary House, Sector 18A, Chandigarh.
 

Rajendra K. Saboo, former world President of Rotary International was the chief guest on the occasion who gave away the scholarships.
 

President of the Club, Anil Chadda informed that nearly Rs.3.80 lakh worth of scholarships have been disbursed today to the students in need.
 

Twenty deserving students of Plus-1 and eight of Plus-2 from various government schools of the city received Rs.10,000 each, for their uniforms and other needs, Anil Chadda informed.
 

The scholarships for these meritorious yet economically-challenged  students were sponsored by philanthropist Satbir Singh Kohli in memory of his late father Tarlochan Singh, to perpetuate his legacy of supporting the needy children throughout his life.   
 

In another literacy initiative by the Club for which Rs.1 lakh, have been spent to support the tuition fee of six girl students pursuing under-graduate studies in the vocational subjects.
 

Two girl students from the Longowal Group of Colleges, and four from Sri Guru Gobind College, Chandigarh were selected for their vocational programmes, for which Rotary Club of Chandigarhy has contributed 50 percent of their tuition fee, while the respective educational institutions have contributed 25 percent and the remaining 25 percent by the students themselves.
 

With our limited resources we continue to reach out to the students in need with scholarships and in-kind assistance from time to time, said Pres. Anil Chadda.
