Hyderabad, August 31, 2019: Gary C.K.Huang, Chairman of The Rotary Foundation was in the city on two day visit. Gary CK Huang is a very top Rotary dignitary around the world reached Hyderabad today as part of his five city Indian tour to Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Cochin and Chennai.

Gary C.K. Huang who served in the year 2014 - 2015 as Rotary International President participated in a program "The Friends of the Foundation Gala Dinner" on Saturday night organsied by Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan. Thirty top city’s industrialists were invited for the gala dinner where they showcased Rotary and its activities to them.

Prior to the Dinner program while addressing a press conference he said The Rotary Foundation in its past 100 years since it was established in the year 1917, raised and spent a mammoth sum of US $ 4 billion or INR 27,200crore on various service project across the world

This year 2019-2020 my target is to raise 400 million US $ which is close to Rs INR 2900 crore. From India alone we expect to raise INR 210 crores by June 2020, informed Gary.

India is the most important Rotary Nation. It is the second largest in terms of its membership which is put at 1.5 lakh and it is also the second largest in terms of contribution to the Rotary Foundation. Last year India contributed 21.4 million US $ i.e INR 150 crore to the Rotary Foundation. This year the target is to raise 30 Million US $ ie INR 210 crores from India. India comes after USA in terms of contribution to the Rotary Foundation. USA contributes 180 Million US $ to the Rotary Foundation

India contributed 21.4 million US $ last years got 21 million as a grant in the same year for various service projects informed Gulam A. Vahanvaty, Trustee of Rotary Foundation in India.

Speaking on the occasion, the host club President of Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan, Sailesh Gumidelli said this evening their club would present a cheque of INR 1.75 crore as their contribution to the Rotary Foundation. Besides their contribution, an individual member of the club expected to present 25000 US $ or i.e INR 17.5 lakh. It is informed that INR 1.75crore is a very large donation and is the biggest amongst all clubs in South Asia. Last year, the same club contributed US$270,000.

The Rotary Foundation is a non-profit global entity. It supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.

The Foundation was created in 1917 as an endowment fund for Rotary "to do good in the world." It has grown from an initial contribution of US$26.50 to more than US $1billion(Rs 6,800 crore). It has one of the largest and most prestigious international fellowship programs in the world. Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion(Rs 27, 200crore) which is on life-changing, sustainable projects.

The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

The Foundation awarded $86,677,399 in funding to 1,306 grants during the fiscal year 2018. Here is a breakdown of causes the grants supported.

Rotary Foundation is the fund raising arm of global NGO, The Rotary International. It is spread in 200 countries. It has 12 lakh members across the globe in over 35000 clubs. Rotary single handedly in association with Gates Foundation eradicated Polio from the world. Polio now exists in just two countries Afghanisthan and Pakisthan. Police is almost eradicated in Nigeria, which will be declared Polio Free Country very soon.
