Rohtak Administration Conducts Comprehensive Health Review; DC Sachin Gupta directs intensified monitoring, preventive healthcare interventions and outcome-based public health delivery
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta on Tuesday chaired a comprehensive district-level review meeting of the Health Department and undertook an extensive assessment of maternal and child health indicators, immunization coverage, high-risk pregnancies, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), tuberculosis control, mental health programmes, Ayushman Bharat implementation, vector-borne disease preparedness, specialist availability and healthcare infrastructure projects across the district.
Rohtak, May 6, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta on Tuesday chaired a comprehensive district-level review meeting of the Health Department and undertook an extensive assessment of maternal and child health indicators, immunization coverage, high-risk pregnancies, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), tuberculosis control, mental health programmes, Ayushman Bharat implementation, vector-borne disease preparedness, specialist availability and healthcare infrastructure projects across the district.
The meeting focused on strengthening healthcare delivery through evidence-based planning, preventive interventions, digital monitoring and improved field-level accountability.
Reviewing maternal and child health indicators, it was informed that during 2025-26, the district recorded 281 child deaths and 12 maternal deaths, Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR) stood at 8.53, Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) stood at 14.97, Under-5 Mortality Rate stood at 16.76 and Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) stood at 71.59. All these indicators remain significantly better than Haryana averages.
However, the Deputy Commissioner expressed concern over the increase in absolute deaths and directed that every maternal and child death be audited in detail, preventable causes such as referral delays, low birth weight, neonatal complications, pneumonia, septicemia and postnatal follow-up gaps be identified scientifically, and outcome-based interventions be implemented at block level.
The meeting was informed that Urban Rohtak reported the highest child deaths at 73, Kahnaur reported 42, Kiloi and Sampla reported 33 each and Lakhan Majra reported 31. During April 2026 alone, 21 child deaths were reported, including 6 in Kiloi block.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta directed officials to prepare focused intervention plans for vulnerable blocks, conduct weekly monitoring and review, and strengthen postnatal follow-up mechanisms.
The district reported 98% ANC registration, 94% early ANC registration, 85% four ANC coverage and 100% institutional deliveries.
High-risk pregnancy (HRP) identification reached 18% against the target of 15%, while 93% identified HRP cases were managed successfully.
The Deputy Commissioner directed digital tracking of all HRP cases till delivery and stabilization, scientific analysis of recurring causes such as anaemia, hypertension, gestational diabetes and nutrition-related complications, and special monitoring in blocks with high HRP prevalence.
Special directions were issued to strengthen surveillance mechanisms under the PC-PNDT Act.
Officials were instructed to conduct systematic backtracking of missing pregnancies, cross-verify field-level data from ASHAs, ANMs and health institutions, and continue intelligence-based enforcement activities rigorously.
Reviewing First Referral Units (FRUs), it was informed that Civil Hospital Rohtak conducted 593 Caesarean deliveries, Kalanaur conducted 56, Sampla conducted 34 and Meham conducted 13.
The Deputy Commissioner directed a detailed operational audit covering operation theatre readiness, blood availability, specialist deployment and emergency obstetric care services.
Reviewing the National Programme for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), officials informed that 15,023 persons have been screened so far, 30,171 hypertensive patients and 24,187 diabetic patients are under treatment, Oral cancer screening coverage reached 81% and Cervical cancer screening remained at 38%.
The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the functioning of “Swasthya Vahini – Swasthya on Wheels” mobile diagnostic units operating in Kalanaur, Kahnaur, Madina, Lakhan Majra, Chiri, Meham, Sampla and Kiloi. These units are providing OPD consultations, Laboratory testing, ECG, X-ray services, NCD screening and Counselling services.
He directed officials to further utilize these units for screening Hypertension, Diabetes, Obesity and Cardiovascular risk factors, especially in rural and underserved populations.
Under the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), More than 2,600 OPD consultations and Over 1,000 counselling sessions were conducted during April 2026 alone. The Deputy Commissioner directed expansion of mental health awareness campaigns in schools, colleges and vulnerable communities, Intensified counselling on stress, anxiety, behavioural health and substance abuse, and Stronger anti-drug awareness campaigns targeting youth.
The Deputy Commissioner directed that the Indian Red Cross Society be actively integrated into district health outreach programmes.
With intensified monitoring, preventive healthcare strategies, digital tracking systems and stronger interdepartmental coordination, Rohtak district is steadily strengthening its public healthcare ecosystem and moving towards more responsive, accountable and citizen-centric healthcare delivery.
