Robust Voter Turnout Recorded in Kangra District During Urban Local Body Elections
A robust voter turnout was witnessed across Kangra district on Sunday during polling for two Municipal Corporations, five Municipal Councils, and one Nagar Panchayat. Enthusiastic participation by voters marked the urban local body elections, with polling stations witnessing steady queues throughout the day.
Dharamshala, May 17, 2026: A robust voter turnout was witnessed across Kangra district on Sunday during polling for two Municipal Corporations, five Municipal Councils, and one Nagar Panchayat. Enthusiastic participation by voters marked the urban local body elections, with polling stations witnessing steady queues throughout the day.
In the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation area, long queues of voters continued even after the scheduled closing time of 3:00 PM, reflecting strong public participation in the democratic process. Dharamshala Municipal Corporation recorded a voter turnout of 69.01 percent, while Palampur Municipal Corporation registered 67.37 percent polling.
Among the Municipal Councils, Nagar Parishad Jawalamukhi recorded the highest turnout at 77.42 percent. Other polling percentages included 75.47 percent in Nagar Parishad Kangra, 72.57 percent in Nagar Parishad Nurpur, 73.93 percent in Nagar Parishad Nagrota Bagwan, 74.55 percent in Nagar Parishad Dehra, and 75.24 percent in Nagar Panchayat Shahpur.
Meanwhile, counting of votes for the Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayat has already commenced, and results from several local bodies have started to emerge.
The counting of votes for the Dharamshala and Palampur Municipal Corporations will be conducted on May 31.
