Road from Sherpur Chowk to Jalandhar Bypass Chowk to be recarpeted and green belts along road to be beautified with cost of Rs 11.64 crore

Ludhiana, November 13, 2021: In a big road infrastructure push of the city, Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu on Saturday inaugurated the work of recarpeting and developing green belts around the 7.5 km long stretch from Sherpur Chowk to Jalandhar Bypass Chowk (old GT Road) with a cost of Rs 11.64 crore.
Kick-starting the first phase of the project from Sherpur Chowk to Jagraon Bridge with a cost of Rs 3.16 crore, Ashu directed the officials to carry out this work on a fast-track pace so as to ensure the benefit of people with this much-demanded project falling in jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation Ludhiana. 
He said the project of entire 7.5 KM stretch also include development of green belts, relaying of mastic, construction of footpaths and others and stated that this road being formally known as old GT road, has played a vital role in the development of the Ludhiana city. He said that the tenders of the remaining part of the project have already been allotted and construction work would be started shortly. 
Ashu added that the state government is committed towards the all-round development of the Ludhiana. He said that the state government has specially emphasized the improvement of the road network of the urban areas and development of green belts for ensuring beautification of the city. 
The Cabinet Minister told that MCL has been taking carry out path-breaking decisions for transforming the state's industrial hub into a smart and ultra-modern city.
Prominent among present on the occasion included Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, LIT Chairman Raman Balasubramaniam, Councillors Swarandeep Singh Chahal, MC Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, Jarnail Singh Shimlapuri, Arjun Singh Cheema, Sonu Diko and others.
