Revamped Mission Tandarust Punjab would transform state into healthiest by preserving environment: MLA Dawar and DC

Ludhiana: To ensure good health of the people and wiping out all kinds of pollution for protecting nature, Revamped Mission Tandarust Punjab mission has been started under which path-breaking initiatives would be taken by several departments with a focused and integrated approach towards creating a Tandarust (healthy) Punjab.

Participating in a virtual launch of Revamped Mission Tandarust Punjab by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on the occasion of World Environment Day, MLA Surinder Dawar, Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the primary aim is to provide clean drinking water, improve air quality, planting saplings, ensure safe products, eliminating adulteration, road safety and improve the physical and mental health of the people of Punjab through sports.

They said that departments involved in this program implementation are environment, health, Local Government, Agriculture, Cooperation, Forests, Sports, Public Works, Water sanitation, PWD, Rural Development and Panchayats, road safety and Soil conservation and all officials of these departments would work towards one goal of conserving natural resources and building Tandarust Punjab.

Accompanied by Punjab Large Industrial Development Board  Chairman Pawan Dewan, Punjab Medium Industrial Development Board Amarjeet Singh Tikka, Punjab Youth Development Board Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation KK Bawa, Backfinco vice chairman Mohammad Gulab, Punjab Large Industrial Development Board senior vice chairman Ramesh Joshi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar, DCC (Urban) president Ashwani Sharma, Superintending Engineer PPCB Sandeep Behal, they said that Department for Health has been entrusted with the task of making people aware about the food safety concerns and effective implementation of Food Safety Act, especially ensuring the prescribed quality of Milk and Milk Products.

They said that preventing the sale of spurious and unauthorized medicines as well as the sale by unlicensed chemists is also high on the Department’s agenda, which would also work towards creating awareness about Communicable and Non-Communicable diseases and stressing preventive health aspects.

They said that to ensure adequate safe potable drinking water availability in rural areas, the Department of Water Supply & Sanitation would test water quality from time to time to ensure that physical, biological, and chemical parameters are within prescribed limits besides ensuring the connection of potable water supply to each house of the state.

Likewise, they said that regular drives for vehicular pollution check and efforts for road safety by the Department of Transport.  The Department of Environment would also undertake regular monitoring to ensure ambient air quality, besides creating awareness against crop residue burning and implementing NGT order in this regard, they added.

They said that industrial pollution and ensuring effluents/emissions within laid down norms and safe disposal of Plastic/e-Waste and Bio-medical waste as per the prescribed rules would also be on agenda.

They also informed that the Department of Sports and Youth Services would promote games among the youths through the distribution of sports kits to the players and youth clubs besides would organize tournaments once the situation improves.

 Agriculture and Farmers welfare department would conduct an awareness drive against stubble burning with PPCB and would also provide in-situ machinery to the farmers. The Forest department would work on increasing green cover in Punjab by planting and offering saplings to the people.
